Richard Boyle’s drawings are deliberately designed to conjure up the feeling of a religious allegorical painting redesigned for a largely secular viewer. His work here deals with the idea of a finding paradise through the surprisingly common human idea of an irrational belief system and acts associated with that.
Claudia Cannon’s
paintings and drawings may appear surreal but they are not illustrations of her dreams or thoughts, they are the physical consequence of things she experiences, the ‘evidence’ of her quest for paradise.

Mathew Cunningham’s artworks -through definite reservation- pierce the vulnerability within themselves. The Christmas drone sees red mixing with green and returning to grey. The moments during trying that have nothing and have no nothing but are trying and have tried.
Alice McCabe has made
a woven carpet like scene of pipe-cleaner birds from Cumbria, which, given their vibrant colours look exotic but slightly hellish. She welcomes you to her paradise: the feeling of extreme boredom/completeness arising from nothing.

Ed Scott uses an apparently simple visual framework to infer the existence of ‘concealed’ modes of understanding that precede linguistic signification – “the deep-structure” or virtual. His images are reduced. Through their simplicity, an easier understanding of their form – something structurally uncomplicated – is facilitated in the shared conscious space amongst the artists and viewers.
Tine Waag’s practice revolves around a small cluster of words; Escapism, Representation and Simulacrum. At the centre of this work is the idea that all of culture is based on a need to escape. By using packaging and throwaway materials Tine builds futile (as the materials do not allow for perfection) yet fantastical representations of childhood dreams. Their makeshift qualities provide amusement and joy to the viewer as they begin to adapt their adult viewpoint to recognise the imperfect scenarios. Through her work we realise the humour in our escapist enterprises, and especially the humour in the seriousness of popular culture and social structure.
